Finding the Perfect Wedding Song

Whether you are planning a themed wedding, or doing it strictly traditional, your wedding song is a song that should represent your and your love.

Those who choose Purcell's "Trumpet Voluntary", or a theme of Paganini 18th Variation, will have a much different wedding than the couple who walk down the aisle to the music of a Mariachi Band.

While you may be limited to the types of songs you can use if you are marrying in a church that does not allow "secular" music (music that is not of a religious orientation), there are still many pieces out there that are suitable to help you make your way up the aisle.

For a very formal wedding that is full of tradition, where the ceremony will take place in a church, a classical piece of music would be the one best suited. While Pacabel's Canon in D is a regular wedding classic, the world of classical music is not limited to this oft used piece. Pieces such as the two depicted above (Purcell's and Paganini's), or ones such as Handel's Four Seasons, Bach's Arioso, or Vivaldi's Gloria, will also make excellent themes by which to walk down the aisle.

If your wedding is outdoors, far away from the restrictions of a church, you may want to look to music that reflects that. Songs such as "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys, "I Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley, or songs with a much more ethereal feel to them such as "Only Time" by Enya or "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers.

Songs that sing to us by and far are the best possible choices. If they have meaning to you or lyrics that epitomize the feelings you have for each other on this special day, then look to that song as the one that leads you up the aisle into that new life you have chosen.

Equally important is the recessional music played, the music that walks your newly married selves back down the aisle. Whereas the music that brought you up the aisle might have been more reflective and solemn, bespeaking of the emotions that you are feeling. The music that signifies the end of your ceremony and the beginnings of your celebration should be of an upbeat nature that fills both you and your guests with the triumph that the deed is indeed done.

Whatever you choose, make sure it is the right choice for you and that the lyrics are appropriate to the occasion. This song will be the one that you will remember for the rest of your life with fondness. For this is the song that started it all.

The Tradition of a Flower Girl

Historically, the traditional duty of a chosen Flower Girl was to scatter fresh flowers along the pathway before a bride to ensure that her life would be a "rosy" one.
Today that tradition has evolved due to issues with staining and mess to the point where seldom any flowers are actually scattered. More often than not, the flowers remain in a small basket or bouquet that the child walks up the aisle with. A new twist on this practice today is to do away with the flowers all together.
For those having a garden or spring/summer wedding a small galvanized watering can, decorated with a large single gerber daisy and flirty pretty ribbon streamers can not only look pretty, but carries the added play value that can keep your Flower girl distracted for the entirety of the ceremony. It can also be a wonderful favor or keepsake that you give to the child that she can keep and use at home to help her own garden grow.
If the wedding is to be a religious one, you can also have your Flower Girl walk down the aisle clutching a small white bible, a candle, or a bell that she can ring (though that can make for a noisy ceremony later on).
Depending upon the age of the child, they can also carry a small satin purse covered in silk or satin flowers or a small satin stuffed animal. Considering the purse can contain some small toys they can amuse themselves with and the stuffed animal is a toy itself, you wouldn't have to worry about them being bored further into the ceremony.
While scattering flowers may no longer be a part of the Flower Girl Tradition, having a little girl you know and love stand alongside you in a special role as your Flower Girl, is a tradition that will never die. Look beyond flowers to something that will make your little attendant feel that she is a special part of your day - even if it means she is a flowerless Flower Girl.

Wedding Cake Ideas

Your wedding cake is one of the most important parts of your big day! Here are a few tips for selecting the right wedding cake:

1. Cake Topper - Select the right cake topper for your cake. Take size and color into consideration. Opt for comical cake toppers vs traditional if you and your partner are known for your wild ways!

2. Icing - The four popular icing choices for wedding cakes are butter cream, royal, traditional, and fondant. If using butter cream, please be mindful that it melts easy and has a short life-span.

3. Cake Embellishments - Some options include fruit, flowers, shells, fountains, stairs, jewels, ribbon, lights, cake toppers, and the cake serving set. If choosing flowers, let the florist know how the wedding cake and cake topper coordinate together so that he or she can create something that integrates well.

4. Serving - When cutting the cake, be sure to first take off any non-edible cake decorations such as ribbon or jewels. Cut one piece of cake out of whichever layer you prefer for pictures, then deconstruct all of the cake layers before continuing the cake cutting.

Sweet Centerpieces

If you are having a sweet-themed wedding reception, the centerpieces need to be just as sweet!
Whether because of an allergy to flowers or maybe a dedicated sweet tooth, you are sure to please your guests with centerpieces of candy!
Anybody can scatter sweets on a table - it's all about how you present it. If bright and colorful is your aim, glass vases filled halfway with flavored and color coordinated jellybeans topped off with oversized lollipops that host a sticker or a tag filled with wedding details, makes for an easy, inexpensive, yet still visually dramatic centerpiece that will leave guests with their own sweet tooth more than satisfied.
If looking for a more subdued and elegant centerpiece that still utilizes candy as its center-point, wrap candy from chocolates, to candied almonds or any small individual sized morsels in pastel shaded crepe paper. Wrap them in typical bon bon fashion with ribbon decorating the two ends, top them with a personalized sticker, and place them in a glass dish with crepe paper flowers to accent.
Mints, chocolate, hard candies, jellybeans, caramels (particularly good paired with apples for a fall wedding), and lollipops (because of their vast array of sizes, colors and shapes), all make for amazing centerpieces when paired with some form of glass container.
